We all know that Christmas lights and all that come with them can make your home capture the attention of passer-byers. But your potential Buyers also need to be able to imagine themselves, and their own holiday style, living in your home.
You don't have to be a Grinch and not decorate at all, but you do need to keep the huge inflatable Santa and his reindeer off the front lawn, and not put every piece of decor you have inside, or out front. Keep your decorations as minimal as possible.

1. Don't get too personal with your decorations. Don't let your decorations do the talking, let the style, and features of your home do that. Again, Buyers want to be able to envision themselves, and everything they will be bringing with them in your home.
2. Think about the Neighborhood. If your neighbors are decorating like Martha May Who, it might be a good idea to decorate as well, if it's something you normally do. But try and remember to be as generic as you can with your decorations. You don't want to give a potential Buyer any reason not to want to make you an offer.
3. Keep it Simple. Hang a wreath on the door, put up classic white lights, and choose scents over scenes. The smell of apple cinnamon, or pumpkin pie is much better than adding clutter with too many decorations, or a wall displaying all the Christmas Cards you received this year. And a cozy fire is a good way to set the mood during winter showings.
4. Decorate with hand soaps and drying towels. Put Gingerbread scented soaps in your bathroom or kitchen, and a festive hand towel to match. This is an easy way to show your spirit without adding anything out of the norm.
5. Use Color. Another good option if you are loud and proud about the way you celebrate, is to use colors like red and green. Hang wreaths on the windows and a garland on your mantle, but keep it clean and simple. You don't have to completely hide your beliefs or personality, but again, it is good to limit them in your decorating style if possible if you are selling your home.
One thing is for sure, buyers who are shopping during the Holidays mean business. You are more likely to get serious buyers this time of year because it's the holidays and people usually have enough stress in their lives during this time of year, and mother nature is not always favorable either. If you can handle the added flexibility to your lifestyle during this season, chances are, you and your potential Buyers could all be celebrating the New Year with a lot more to be thankful for <3
